- Antique Man Riding Dog Agate Fob Seal
- Circa 1900
- Unmarked metal, most likely brass
- Height (including bolt ring) = 31mm approx.
- Seal face = 9 x 13mm approx.
- Weight = 2.5 grams approx.
Personal note: I've spent quite a bit of time researching who these characters may be as I'm intrigued as to why the man is riding a dog in the first place. The figure strongly resembles William Shakespeare but I'm baffled as to why he would be depicted riding a dog. Other suggestions have been Tom Thumb or perhaps Punch from Punch and Judy. I can't be certain what the correct answer is but regardless, this is a highly interesting little antique!
CONDITION
In good antique condition, the fob has been polished by my workshop and a jump ring added. There is a chip to the edge of the agate seal as shown.
