An incredible antique intaglio ring crafted in 18ct gold (shank) and 9ct gold (setting), mounted with an oval onyx which has been seal engraved with a Russian noble family coat of arms, that of either the Gerasimovs or the Gorozhanskys, the seal depicting a shield with a cross and a horseshoe, with spikes facing upwards. The shield is surmounted by a noble helmet and a crown, on the surface of which there is a hawk holding a horseshoe with a cross in its claws. Both families are recorded back as early as the 1600's. The coat of arms of each family are very similar, the main difference being the colours (silver/blue or gold/blue) which of course are absent from the seal engraving. A noble Polish family called the Jastrzębiecs predates the aforementioned Russian families and seem to be the origin for this coat of arms.
A stunning, rare Victorian era ring which would suit a lady or gentleman equally!

CONDITION
In good antique condition, with some light surface wear commensurate with age including some light surface scratches to the stone when viewed under magnification. The setting appears to have been added later, as it is 9ct gold instead of 18ct gold like the shank.
